Watlow
now offers a variety of products designed to provide interconnectivity to many
of the company's controllers. Interconnectivity is increasing in popularity for
industrial applications where communication between control equipment and
computers is recognized as an effective method of improving process performance
and reducing costs.
Two of Watlow's newest products provide quick, convenient and economical
connectivity solutions, without requiring an investment in new controllers.
Watlow's EM gateway and CDN gateway devices both act as bridges between
Watlow controllers and a company's communications network.
The EM gateway allows users to adapt their existing Watlow controllers
for Ethernet capabilities, and provides remote monitoring and control
functions at a fraction of the cost of installing new controllers with
embedded Ethernet software. Acting as a bridge for ModbusTM communications, the EM gateway enables users to perform key control
operations, such as process monitoring, making set points changes and
managing alarms, from remote locations. The EM gateway communicates with
Watlow legacy controllers via a ModbusTM EIA 485 communications network.
The EM gateway supports up to 16 controllers in any combination, making
it ideal for applications that require multiple loops of control.
Watlow controllers supported by the EM gateway include:
SERIES 981/982
SERIES 988/989
SERIES 998/999
SERIES 96/97
SERIES F4
POWER SERIES
CLS200
MICRODIN®
To provide availability of DeviceNetTM on Can Communications to the ModbusTM gateway, Watlow recently launched its CDN gateway. DeviceNetTM on Can Communications is also gaining popularity in industrial applications,
where it enables communications between a business' computers, controllers,
sensors and actuators.
The CDN Gateway links DeviceNetTM systems to a variety of Watlow controllers via their EIA 485 ModbusTM interface. The CDN Gateway allows a DeviceNetTM Master node to send and receive data using standard POLL or EXPLICIT
messaging. Up to 32 unique ModbusTM pairs
may be accessed in each POLL transaction, and the ModbusTM registers may reside in a single supported controller, or any combination of
up to 32 controllers.
The CDN Gateway is enclosed by a 63.5mm by 82.55mm plastic (2.5 in. x
3.25 in.) housing with mounting tabs. A five-pin micro-connector furnishes
the DeviceNetTM interface and a nine-pin
"D" connector provides the RS 485 interface. The EIA 485 serial channel is
fully isolated from the DeviceNetTM power.
Watlow controllers supported by the CDN Gateway include:
SERIES 96/97
MICRODIN
CLS200
Both new gateway devices are available from stock for quick shipment and
are backed by warranties.
